Porsche 911
The Porsche 911 is the most fascinating of all production sports cars this world has ever seen.
Since the Porsche 911 introduction in 1964 by Dr. Ferdinand Porsche, it has undergone years of technical evolution and market driven refinements, but it is still instantly recognisable as a Porsche 911.
The Porsche 911 engine in 1964 consisted of 2 banks of two horizontally opposed cylinders, commonly called the 'boxer engine' configuration. The Porsche 911 engine was very soon after changed to 2 banks of three horizontally opposed cylinders which greatly increase performance and allerted the world that the Porsche 911 had arrived.
Another feature of Porsche 911 engine was they were air-cooled. They were cooled by a large rotating shrouded fan that forced cold air through strategically shaped ducting onto the cylinder heads. This obviously did away with the conventional over-heating problems with water cooled engines at the time. All but the very latest Porsche 911 (from 1994 0n) kept this distinguishing feature.
